The Harris Tweed Weavers
While the weaving industry has undergone many changes over the years, the one thing that has not changed to any great extent is the lifestyle of a traditional Harris Tweed weaver.
Weaving is not so much a job, but more a way of life that tends to be handed down from generation to generation.
From the early days, weaving has always been associated with crofting where the crofter would tend his land and livestock at the same time as making time to weave the world famous Harris Tweed. This tradition remains the same, with many weavers now having recognised trades such as builders, joiners, plumbers etc in addition to crofting.
